Port Hope takes care of Deseronto early, wins 13-1

The Deseronto Storm fell behind early, and the Port Hope Panthers kept piling on the points on the way to a 13-1 victory.

Tanner Bowditch was all over the ice for Port Hope, as he tallied four goals and one assist in the win. Bowditch got on the scoresheet 7:24 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:25 into the first, at 19:57 into the first, and at 10:33 into the second.

Deseronto was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Panthers were able to score seven times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:48 into the second period. Five fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Port Hope was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Port Hope made the Storm's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 95 shots and forcing 82 saves. Brock Tufts made 60 stops and Liam Smith APM made 22. The Panthers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Port Hope averages 3.8 goals per contest. The Panthers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Port Hope additionally got points from Ryan Wilkinson, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Port Hope also had goals scored by Mitch Buurkitt, who had three, Tyler Davey, who had two, and Connor Turland and Jared Boomhower, who each put in one. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Mack Mclean and Riley Turland, who contributed one a piece, Brandon Durst and Dan Lagrois, who each chipped in two, Chandler Gillespie and Mike Smith, who contributed three a piece, and Jacob Spicer and Dylan Baxter, who each chipped in four.

Deseronto forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and three majors for 85 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Storm had been spending in the box.

Port Hope's Josh Cole stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. For the Panthers, Turland and Andrew Oelkers were ejected from the contest. Deseronto registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Team's Brandon Turner and Brett Maracle were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
