Wainman stymies Port Perry, Lakefield wins 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Zach Wainman helped the Lakefield Chiefs defeat the Port Perry Mojacks, 3-1.

Lakefield pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Chiefs were paced by Shawn Mackie, who had one goal. Mackie scored 41 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Ryan Saunders provided the assist.

Lakefield forced Port Perry goalie Drew Siydock to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Lakefield also got a goal from Eric Oosting as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Connor Blair, who had two and Jordan Walsh, Eric Shewell, and Devin Gilbert, who contributed one a piece.

The Mojacks kept the Chiefs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wainman made 31 saves on 32 shots.

Port Perry was led by Lee Taylor, who scored the team's only goal. Taylor scored on the power play 13:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Perry. An interference penalty on Nathan Larson had put the Mojacks on the power play. Kyle Powell assisted on the tally.

Lakefield registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Siydock rejected 30 shots on goal for Port Perry. The Mojacks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
