xMississauga holds on for 3-1 win against xCobourgPort Credit Arena Sat, Feb 15, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The xCobourg Cougars tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the xMississauga Chargers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1. A goal by Stefano Alonzi put xMississauga up 3-0 in the third period, but xCobourg pulled to within two on Landon Schiller's tally 19:49 into the third period. The Chargers' Austin Washkurak was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 46 saves and let only one puck past him. Washkurak certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.74 entering the contest. The Cougars were unable to stop xMississauga from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chargers eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. xMississauga capitalized on xCobourg's penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage. The Chargers were helped by Nick Tetley, who had one goal. Tetley scored on the power play 5:18 into the third period to make the score 2-0 xMississauga. xMississauga had gained a power play chance when Kenzie Smith was whistled for head contact. Vince Figliomeni assisted on the tally. Mitch Mehling also scored for xMississauga. In addition, xMississauga received assists from Lucas Venuto, who had two and Aaron Dutra, Trevor Warnaar, and Joseph Molinaro, who contributed one a piece. The Cougars were held below their usual level of production. xCobourg averages 3.2 goals per game. The Cougars forced the Chargers goalie Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. More assists for xCobourg came via Ryan Logan and Connor Armour, who each chipped in one. xMississauga incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nathan Perry rejected 34 shots on goal for xCobourg. The Cougars totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For xCobourg, Smith was ejected from the game.
