Mississauga survives Stouffville comeback, wins 4-2

The Stouffville Spirit tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Mississauga Chargers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Mississauga took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Stouffville storm back on a Joseph Deveny goal 6:52 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Mitch Mehling had two goals to lead the Chargers to victory. Mehling scored at 1:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 3:47 into the third to make the score 3-1 Mississauga.

Mississauga's offense rang up 40 shots on the Spirit's net.

Mississauga also had goals scored by Aaron Dutra and Jackson Howe, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississauga came via Trevor Warnaar, who had two and Tyler Cooper, Zack Lansfield, Ayrton Valente, Lucas Venuto, and Thomas Lattavo, who contributed one a piece.

Stouffville stifled the Chargers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Spirit kept Mississauga's goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Washkurak made 32 saves on 34 shots.

Stouffville also got a goal from Peyton Backus as well. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Matthew Heffernan and Andres Kopstals, who each chipped in one.

The Chargers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Stouffville's Tim Bester stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Spirit incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
