Ackerland leads Pickering over Orangeville, 5-1

Behind a great game by Keegan Ackerland, who had two goals and one assist, the Pickering Panthers defeated the Orangeville Flyers, 5-1.

Ackerland's tallies came at 2:31 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pickering and 12:24 into the second to make the score 3-1 Pickering.

Pickering's penalty kill excelled, as the Panthers gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Pickering stifled Orangeville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Pickrell made 30 saves on 35 shots. Pickering could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Pickering also got points from Nicholas Lepone, who also had one goal and two assists. Pickering also had goals scored by Robert Cammalleri and Mike Nedoszytko, who each put in one. In addition, Pickering received assists from Michael Walker and Riley Devine, who contributed one a piece and Michael Giacometti and Brodie Tutton, who each chipped in two.

Orangeville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 42 penalty minutes.

The Flyers were led by Peter Stepanis, who scored the team's only goal. Stepanis scored 7:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pickering. Scott Goodman picked up the assist.

Steven Dombrosky rejected 19 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. For Orangeville, Devon Gillham was ejected from the game.
