Pickering stifles xCobourg's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Pickering Panthers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the xCobourg Cougars, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Pickering led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Panthers' Michael Walker's scored at 3:01 in the second period to put Pickering up 3-0.

The Panthers were led by Riley Devine, who had one goal and one assist. Devine scored 15:03 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Pickering. Brodie Tutton picked up the assist.

Pickering was sparked by Devine, who racked up one goal and one assist.

Pickering also got points from Nicholas Lepone, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Doug Carter also scored for Pickering. More assists for Pickering came via Tanner Shaw, Cam Palmer, Chris Sekelyk, Mike Nedoszytko, and Michael Giacometti, who each chipped in one.

xCobourg stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars' offense rang up 48 shots on Pickering's net. xCobourg's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Cougars average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

xCobourg was helped by Conner Hogg, who registered two goals. Hogg scored the first of his two goals at 8:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Pickering. Stuart King provided the assist. Hogg's next tally made the score 3-2 Pickering with 5:10 left in the third period. The Cougars had gained a power play chance when Walker was whistled for holding. Liam Grande picked up the assist. xCobourg additionally got points from Mason Marchment, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, xCobourg received assists from Alex D Oliveira and Jake Emilio, who contributed one a piece.

Steven Dombrosky recorded 45 saves for the Panthers. Pickering incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Palmer was ejected from the game. xCobourg's Mathieu Ouellet stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
