Stouffville completes comeback, beats Hamilton, 4-3

The Stouffville Spirit climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Hamilton Red Wings, 4-3.

Stouffville never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Spirit fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Hamilton's Luke Sinclair at 1:50 in the second period. Stouffville knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Graham Pickard at 2:53 in the third period. The Spirit got the game winner at 14:16 in the third period on a goal by Pickard.

Stouffville was paced by Andres Kopstals, who finished with one goal and one assist. Kopstals scored on the power play 16:50 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Stouffville. The Spirit had gained a power play chance when Liam Bird was whistled for slashing. Pickard assisted on the tally.

Stouffville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Spirit's offense rang up 45 shots on the Red Wings' net.

Stouffville additionally got points from Michael Carcone, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Pickard, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Matthew Heffernan and Tyson Bruce, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Matthew Dunlop, who had two and Peyton Backus and Nick Thomakos, who contributed one a piece.

Hamilton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Red Wings finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Hamilton was helped by Alex Zaccaria, who grabbed one goal. Zaccaria scored 15:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Connor Bramwell picked up the assist. Niko Porikos also scored for Hamilton. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Cole Poliziani, Jason OConnor, Corey Caruso, and Adam Burnett, who each chipped in one.

Daniel Mannella made 25 saves for Stouffville on 28 shots. The Spirit incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Stouffville, Kyler Challis was ejected from the game. Mark Sinclair recorded 41 saves for the Red Wings. Hamilton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Riley Dunda was ejected from the game.
