Georgetown uses fast start to beat Newmarket, 6-1

The Georgetown Raiders opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 6-1 over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Georgetown got the win behind a great game by Anthony Marra, who had two goals and two assists. Marra scored the first of his two goals at 11:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Georgetown. John Adams provided the assist. Marra's next tally made the score 3-0 Georgetown with 7:19 left in the first period. The Raiders had gained a power play chance when Christian Dedonato was whistled for high sticking. Adams picked up the assist.

Georgetown's Michael McNiven was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. McNiven managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.48 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:15 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Raiders were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Georgetown had been spending in the box. The Raiders forced Newmarket's goalies to work between the pipes, getting 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Alex Bishop - APM made nine stops and Jophrey Gregoire made 18. Georgetown surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Raiders have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Georgetown also got points from Steve Hladin, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Georgetown also had goals scored by Jordan Brown, Scott Emerson, and Liam Board, who each put in one. In addition, Georgetown received assists from Ryan Smith and Andrew Court, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Newmarket surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hurricanes did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Newmarket puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game.

Newmarket also got a goal from Trevor Petersen as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Curtis Harvey and Brandon Francisco, who each chipped in one.

Georgetown registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Richard Court was ejected from the game. The Hurricanes registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Newmarket, Kyle Stephan was ejected from the game.
