St. Michaels falls to Stouffville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Stouffville Spirit pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the St. Michaels Buzzers on a clutch goal by Peyton Backus.

Stouffville was sparked by Backus, who had one goal and one assist. Backus scored 4:45 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Stouffville. Nick Thomakos provided the assist.

The Spirit were led by Backus, who finished with one goal and one assist.

Stouffville stifled St. Michaels' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Buzzers were unable to stop the Spirit from sending pucks towards the net, and Stouffville eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Stouffville also had goals scored by Tyson Bruce and Joseph Deveny, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Matthew Heffernan, Daryl Thompson, Michael Morgan, and Christopher Brill-Morgan, who each chipped in one.

St. Michaels managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Michaels' offense rang up 44 shots on the Spirit's net.

The Buzzers were led by David Italiano, who tallied two goals. Italiano scored the first of his two goals at 6:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels. Jake Evans picked up the assist. Italiano's next tally made the score 2-2 with 27 seconds left in the third period. CJ Shugart assisted on the tally. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Angelpooulos Peter, who had one.

Daniel Mannella recorded 42 saves for Stouffville. The Spirit incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. St. Michaels' George Argiropoulos stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Buzzers registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
