North York blows out Newmarket, 7-3

The North York Rangers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

North York surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Rangers have scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

North York was helped by Brandon Gaudette, who grabbed one goal. Gaudette scored 8:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North York. Ted Hunt assisted on the tally. North York additionally got points from Hunt, who also had one goal and one assist, Fung Zachary, who also registered one goal and one assist, Liam Kerins, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Tye Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. North York also had goals scored by Gabriel Valenzuela and Corey Kalk, who scored one goal each. In addition, North York received assists from Patrick Piacentini, Alex Leader, Matthew Whittaker, and John Carpino, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket was led by Ryan Kruss, who racked up one goal and one assist. Kruss scored on the power play 13:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 North York. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when the Rangers' Power Brody was sent off for roughing after whistle. Justin Maiolino picked up the assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Sam Hu and Nik Coric, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Anthony Trujillo, who had one.

Jason Pucciarelli recorded 27 saves for North York. The Rangers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Newmarket's starting goalie, Bo Bessette, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jophrey Gregoire, who stopped five shots. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
