Thompson's hat trick boosts Whitby over Oakville, 7-2

Henry Thompson lifted the Whitby Fury to a 7-2 victory with a hat trick against the Oakville Blades.

Thompson's first goal came 7:37 into the second period. He then added goals at 17:28 into the second and at 17:08 into the third.

Whitby led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring four goals in the second.

The Fury's penalty kill excelled, as Whitby gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Fury's offense rang up 47 shots on Oakville's net. Whitby's goal total was higher than its season average. The Fury have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Whitby could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Whitby additionally got points from Taylor Best, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Marcus Crawford, Mike Panowyk, and Marco Azzano, who scored one goal each. In addition, Whitby received assists from Ryan Kirkup, who had two, Jeff Murray, who had three, and Will Scott AP, Tyler Park, Jonathan OHara, Adam Clements, Carter Landry, Jesse Pereira, and Dakota Kettrick, who contributed one a piece.

The Blades struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Oakville was helped by Kris Bennet, who racked up one goal. Bennet scored on the power play 3:13 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Blades had gained a power play chance when Park was whistled for tripping. Matthew McLeod picked up the assist. Greg Allen also scored for Oakville. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were David Dischiavi, Greg Campbell, and Ross Sloan, who each chipped in one.

The Fury's Boyd Diclemente stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Brendan McGlynn rejected 40 shots on goal for Oakville.
