Ouellet stymies Hamilton, Cobourg wins 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Mathieu Ouellet helped the Cobourg Cougars defeat the Hamilton Red Wings, 3-1.

Cobourg was led by Kenzie Smith, who grabbed one goal. Smith scored 11:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Nick Neal picked up the assist.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Cobourg forced Hamilton goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Cobourg also got points from Neal, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cobourg also got a goal from Mitchell Gibson APJ as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from TJ Melancon, Alex D Oliveira, Liam Grande, Stuart King, and Connor Armour, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cobourg power plays. Hamilton's offense operated below it season average. The Red Wings put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

Hamilton was led by Liam Bird, who scored the team's only goal. Bird scored 4:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Riley Dunda assisted on the tally.

Ouellet recorded 28 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Red Wings' Sinclair stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Hamilton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
