Toronto vanquishes Oakville in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Sixteen Mile Sports Complex    Fri, Jan 17, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toronto Junior Canadiens defeated the Oakville Blades in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Toronto overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Junior Canadiens trailed 2-1 after a goal by Oakville's Brandon Lukezic at 16:18 in the third period. Toronto tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Anthony Repaci at 19:53 in the third period.

Repaci had two goals to lead the Junior Canadiens to victory.

Toronto forced the Blades' goaltenders to work in net, ripping 52 shots and forcing 49 saves. Brendan McGlynn made 29 stops and Mark Manolescu made 20.

In addition, Toronto received assists from Nicholas Jarzabek, who had two and Aaron Thow and Connor Prudames, who each chipped in one.

Oakville stifled the Junior Canadiens' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Toronto was unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Oakville eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Blades' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Oakville was helped by Greg Campbell, who registered one goal. Campbell scored on the power play 10:55 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. The Blades had taken the advantage when the Junior Canadiens' Aaron Spivak got sent off for hooking. Ross Sloan provided the assist. Toronto's Nathan Colitto stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Junior Canadiens incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Oakville incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
