Best, Kirkup lead Whitby over Stouffville, 6-2

Behind two goals from Taylor Best and two goals Ryan Kirkup, the Whitby Fury downed the Stouffville Spirit 6-2.

Best scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Whitby had taken the advantage when Stouffville's Andres Kopstals got sent off for head contact. Adam Clements picked up the assist. Best's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Whitby with 9:30 left in the first period. Greg Milner provided the assist. Kirkup scored the first of his two goals at 12:38 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Whitby. Jeff Murray assisted on the tally. Kirkup's next tally made the score 4-2 Whitby with 8:45 left in the third period. Henry Thompson picked up the assist.

The Fury stifled the Spirit's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stouffville was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Whitby additionally got points from Milner, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Marco Azzano as well. More assists for Whitby came via Mike Panowyk, who had three and Andrew Doxtator and Dakota Kettrick, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit were led by Michael Carcone, who had two goals. Carcone scored the first of his two goals short handed at 15:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. An interference call on Kopstals put Stouffville on the penalty kill. Graham Pickard assisted on the tally. Carcone's next tally short handed made the score 3-2 Whitby with three seconds left in the second period. Cameron Lintner picked up the assist. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Matthew Dunlop, who had one.

Tyler Feaver rejected 27 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Daniel Mannella made 34 saves for the Spirit on 40 shots. Stouffville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
