Whitby holds on for 5-3 win against Cobourg

The Cobourg Cougars tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Whitby Fury held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Ryan Kirkup put Whitby up 5-0 in the second period, but Cobourg pulled to within two on Mason Marchment's tally 5:59 into the third period.

Mike Panowyk had a great game for the Fury, netting two goals. Panowyk's tallies came at 1:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and on the power play 11:25 into the first to make the score 2-0 Whitby.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:18 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Whitby additionally got points from Greg Milner, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Jeff Murray as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Taylor Best, who had four and Jonathan OHara, Adam Clements, Jeremy Wu, and Sean Deroch, who contributed one a piece.

The Cougars' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Cobourg gives up 2.5 goals per game.

More assists for Cobourg came via Alex D Oliveira, who had two and Rylee McKinnon, Jake Emilio, Landon Schiller, and Conner Hogg, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Feaver recorded 22 saves for Whitby. The Fury totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Team's Tyler Park and OHara were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Nathan Perry took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Mathieu Ouellet who made nine saves. The Cougars totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Cobourg, Connor Armour was ejected from the game.
