Milton's Gottzmann deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Orangeville

The Milton Icehawks relied on the scoring touch of Jeremy Gottzmann, who netted two goals, to beat the Orangeville Flyers, 5-2.

Gottzmann scored on the power play at 8:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Milton and again while on the power play 13:10 into the second to make the score 3-1 Milton.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:40 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Milton forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Icehawks surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Milton forced Orangeville goalie Wyatt Pickrell to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Milton additionally got points from Kane Elliot, who also tallied two goals and three assists. Milton also got a goal from Cooper Richards as well. In addition, Milton received assists from Tyler Burns, who had three and Shane Bennett and Ryan Burns, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 64 minutes in penalty time. Orangeville had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flyers kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Orangeville was led by Connor Stack, who finished with two goals. Stack scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when Milton's Karndeep Natt was sent off for boarding. Henry Stafferton assisted on the tally. Stack's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Milton with 15:57 left in the third period. Orangeville was on a disadvantage when Brian Fonseca went off the ice for high sticking. Lucas Smilsky picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Emmerson Small, who had one.

The Icehawks registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Milton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Pace was ejected from the game. Pickrell rejected 33 shots on goal for the Flyers. Orangeville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Austin Rigney and Wyatt Weppler were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
