Panowyk's big game bests Toronto in 6-3 Whitby win

Behind a great game by Mike Panowyk, who had two goals and one assist, the Whitby Fury defeated the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 6-3.

Panowyk scored on the power play at 6:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 9:26 into the second to make the score 3-1 Whitby.

Whitby pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 48 penalty minutes.

The Fury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Toronto power plays. Toronto was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Whitby additionally got points from Taylor Best, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Whitby included Marcus Crawford, Jeff Murray, and Marco Azzano, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Adam Clements, who had three and Ryan Kirkup, Greg Milner, and Dakota Kettrick, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Canadiens could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 60 minutes in penalties during the game.

Toronto was helped by Anthony Repaci, who tallied one goal. Repaci scored 1:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto. Aaron Spivak provided the assist. Toronto also got points from Daniel Volpe, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Christopher Jarzabek also scored for Toronto. In addition, Toronto received assists from Aaron Thow, Kennedy Duguid, Cody Thompson, and Nicholas Jarzabek, who each chipped in one.

Boyd Diclemente recorded 21 saves for Whitby. The Fury registered four goals on 14 power play opportunities. For Whitby, Henry Thompson was ejected from the game. The Junior Canadiens' Nathan Colitto stopped 37 shots out of the 43 that he faced.
