Oakville squeaks by Georgetown, 3-2

The game between the Oakville Blades and the Georgetown Raiders was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Oakville emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Kris Bennet at 15:06 of the third period.

Bennet had two goals and one assist to lead the Blades. Bennet scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Oakville. Oakville had gained a power play chance when Steve Hladin was whistled for tripping. Marcel Fatovic assisted on the tally. Bennet's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Oakville with 4:54 left in the third period. The Blades had gotten the advantage when Georgetown's Steve Midensky was sent off for tripping. Greg Campbell picked up the assist.

Oakville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their three power plays. The Blades' offense rang up 32 shots on Georgetown's net.

Oakville also got points from Dalton Bew, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Matthew McLeod, who had one.

Oakville was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Georgetown eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Raiders could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Georgetown was helped by John Adams, who tallied one goal. Adams scored 19:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brendan Jacome assisted on the tally. Ryan Smith also scored for Georgetown. In addition, Georgetown received assists from Phil Kiss, who had one.

Evan Buitenhuis recorded 39 saves for the Blades. Oakville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Michael McNiven made 29 saves for the Raiders on 32 shots.
