Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Stouffville Spirit in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Trenton managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Golden Hawks wound up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Trenton's offense rang up 45 shots on Stouffville's net. The Golden Hawks were helped by Dalton Lawrence, who had one goal. Lawrence scored 3:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. Ryan Kinsella picked up the assist. Trenton also had goals scored by Mathew Thompson and Nick Santoro, who each put in one. In addition, Trenton received assists from Fabrizio Ricci, Hunter Fargey, and Brady Wiffen, who each chipped in one. The Spirit forced Trenton goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Stouffville was helped by Joseph Deveny, who registered one goal. Deveny scored 54 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Trenton. Peyton Backus assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Stouffville included Michael Carcone and Tyson Bruce, who scored one goal each.
