Georgetown shrugs off penalties, upends Burlington, 3-0Mold-Master SportsPlex Wed, Dec 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burlington Cougars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Georgetown Raiders shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-0. Georgetown was led by Liam Clare, who tallied one goal and one assist. Clare scored 11:23 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Georgetown. John Adams picked up the assist. The Raiders' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Burlington power plays. Georgetown could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Georgetown also got points from Steve Hladin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Liam Board, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Georgetown came via Ryan Smith, who had one. Burlington was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars average 2.8 goals per game. Burlington struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays. Michael McNiven rejected 24 shots on goal for the Raiders. Georgetown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Allan was ejected from the game. Jeremy Currie recorded 17 saves for the Cougars.
