Huge game by Carcone boosts Stouffville over Orangeville, 4-1Alder St. Recreation Centre Sat, Dec 14, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Michael Carcone was all over the ice for the Stouffville Spirit, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Stouffville's 4-1 win over the Orangeville Flyers. Carcone got on the board by slotting home a goal 19:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Andres Kopstals assisted on the tally. Carcone dished an assist on Graham Pickard's goal that made the score 3-1 Stouffville at 4:02 into the third period. He added another helper on Kopstals' goal that made the score 4-1 Stouffville at 7:38 into the third period.Orangeville was stymied by the Spirit netminder Daniel Mannella, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Mannella certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.98 entering the contest. The Flyers' power play was ineffective against Stouffville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Spirit put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orangeville to score on any of its seven power plays. Stouffville kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Pickrell made 39 saves on 43 shots. The Spirit's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Stouffville finished with 24 penalty minutes. Stouffville additionally got points from Kopstals, who also had one goal and one assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Carter Cummings as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Christopher Brill-Morgan, who had two. Orangeville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stouffville power plays. The Flyers were led by Lucas Smilsky, who scored the team's only goal. Smilsky scored 18:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. Connor Stack picked up the assist. For the Spirit, Chad Burrows was ejected from the game. Orangeville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
