Gilbert lifts Buffalo over Georgetown, 8-5

Dennis Gilbert had two goals to lead the Buffalo Jr. Sabres to an 8-5 victory over the Georgetown Raiders.

Gilbert's tallies came at 11:15 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo and 11:43 into the first to make the score 3-1 Buffalo.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:12 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Buffalo forced Raiders' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Michael McNiven made 29 stops and Michael Singh made zero. The Jr. Sabres surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Buffalo averages 4.6 goals per game. The defensemen of the Jr. Sabres were also effective in Georgetown's zone, and came away with two goals.

Buffalo also got points from Darren McCormick, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Max Mikowski, who also had one goal and one assist, Nolan Sheeran, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Pat Egan, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Buffalo included Josh Gabriel and Michael Ederer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Jason Heerdt, who had two, Dylan Howatt, who had three, and Mason Evans and Nico Gonzalez, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders were led by Steve Hladin, who racked up one goal and two assists. Hladin scored on the power play 7:21 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Buffalo. A roughing penalty on Gabriel had put Georgetown on the power play. John Adams provided the assist. Georgetown additionally got points from Ryan Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Adams, who also had one goal and one assist. Georgetown also had goals scored by Steve Midensky and Liam Board, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Liam Clare, who had two and Gavin Shantz, Scott Emerson, and Phil Kiss, who each chipped in one.

Brandon Mueller recorded 17 saves for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-1 on the power play. For Buffalo, Ryan Kuhn and Howatt were ejected from the contest. The Raiders totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Team's Emerson and Kyle Allan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
