Georgetown uses shootout to best Burlington, 3-2 (2-0 SO)Wave Twin Rinks - Black Sun, Dec 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Burlington Cougars in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Georgetown's other shootout goal was scored by Steve Midensky.The Raiders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Burlington to score on any of its five power plays. The Cougars were unable to stop Georgetown from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Georgetown was helped by Kyle Allan, who had one goal. Allan scored 3:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgetown. Liam Board picked up the assist. Richard Court also scored for Georgetown. More assists for Georgetown came via Nicholas Palumbo, Scott Emerson, and Ryan Smith, who each chipped in one. Burlington stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars forced Georgetown goalie Michael Singh to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Burlington was helped by Brad Johnson, who finished with one goal. Johnson scored 6:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Georgetown. Nathan Tandan provided the assist. Burlington also got a goal from Ben Scheel as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Jordan Brown, Derek Rotter, and Dillon Ciprietti, who contributed one a piece. The Raiders' Singh stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Georgetown incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jeremy Currie recorded 47 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
