Oakville survives Orangeville comeback, wins 5-4

The Orangeville Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Oakville Blades held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Kris Bennet put Oakville up 5-2 in the second period, but Orangeville pulled to within one on Lucas Smilsky's tally 12:50 into the third period.

The Blades got the win behind a great game by Bennet, who had two goals and two assists. Bennet scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:42 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Oakville. Oakville had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Devon Gillham got sent off for roughing. Matthew McLeod picked up the assist. Bennet's next tally on the power play made the score Oakville with 5:28 left in the second period. McLeod assisted on the tally.

Oakville additionally got points from Greg Campbell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dalton Bew, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Oakville also got a goal from Kamil Tkaczuk as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Marcel Fatovic and Ross Sloan, who each chipped in one.

Orangeville forced the Blades goalie Brendan McGlynn to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Orangeville also got points from Josh Villaflor, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Emmerson Small, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Connor Stack, who had two and Austin Rigney and John Woolsey, who contributed one a piece.

McGlynn rejected 38 shots on goal for Oakville. The Blades incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Taylor Welsh recorded 25 saves for the Flyers. Orangeville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
