Trenton rips Cobourg, 5-1

The Trenton Golden Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Cobourg Cougars, and when the final buzzer sounded Golden Hawks emerged with a 5-1 win.

Fabrizio Ricci had a great game for Trenton, netting two goals. Ricci found the back of the net 15:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Trenton and again while on the power play 5:11 into the third to make the score 4-1 Trenton.

The Golden Hawks were led by goalie Denny Dubblestyne, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Dubblestyne will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.47.

Trenton also got points from Tyler Donaldson, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jason Zaleski, who also had one goal and one assist. Brady Wiffen also scored for Trenton. More assists for Trenton came via Mathew Thompson, Chrisitian Lloyd, and Nick Santoro, who contributed one a piece and Tyler Mayea and Nick Boddy, who each chipped in two.

Cobourg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Cobourg's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Cougars give up 2.4 goals per game.

Cobourg was led by Jake Emilio, who scored the team's only goal. Emilio scored on the power play 2:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. The Cougars had gotten the advantage when Trenton's Brett Seldon was sent off for boarding. Alex D Oliveira assisted on the tally.

The Golden Hawks totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Team's Danny Liscio and Santoro were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mathieu Ouellet recorded 22 saves for Cobourg. The Cougars registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Cobourg, Rylee McKinnon was ejected from the game.
