Huge game by Bennet boosts Oakville over Newmarket, 8-4

Kris Bennet had two goals and three assists to lead the Oakville Blades to an 8-4 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Bennet's tallies came at 1:14 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Oakville and 7:46 into the third to make the score 6-3 Oakville.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:39 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Oakville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Newmarket to score on any of its three power plays. The Blades' offense rang up 37 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Oakville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Blades average 3.3 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Oakville additionally got points from Dalton Bew, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Ross Sloan, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Oakville also had goals scored by Daniel Jelic, who had two and Matt Luff and Greg Campbell, who each put in one. More assists for Oakville came via Matthew McLeod, who had one, David Dischiavi, who had three, and Kamil Tkaczuk and Sean Kohler, who each chipped in two.

Newmarket was helped by Shaquille Hickey, who registered one goal. Hickey scored 11:39 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Oakville. Trevor Petersen picked up the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Kyle Stephan as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Brandon Francisco, who had two and Oshowy Jordan and Justin Maiolino, who contributed one a piece.

Evan Buitenhuis rejected 26 shots on goal for Oakville. The Blades totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Oakville, Chris Poletek was ejected from the game. Jophrey Gregoire recorded 29 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jesse Saban was ejected from the game.
