Newmarket rolls over Lindsay, 7-3

The Newmarket Hurricanes were firing on all cylinders against the Lindsay Muskies, and when the final buzzer sounded Hurricanes emerged with a 7-3 win.

Newmarket was led by Ian Farrell, who had one goal and one assist. Farrell scored on the power play 12:31 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Newmarket. A high sticking penalty on Keegan Cairns had put the Hurricanes on the power play. Trevor Petersen assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:10 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Newmarket surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Hurricanes average 4.0 goals per contest.

Newmarket additionally got points from Petersen, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Brandon Francisco, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Nik Coric, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Sam Hu also scored for Newmarket. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Justin Maiolino, who had three, Adam Smith and Ryan Kruss, who contributed one a piece, and Christian Dedonato and Jesse Saban, who each chipped in two.

Lindsay forced Newmarket goalie Jophrey Gregoire to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Muskies were helped by Austin Eastman, who had one goal. Eastman scored 8:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. Mathew Lewis provided the assist. Others who scored for Lindsay included Bryan Hignett and Patrick Morgan, who scored one goal each. More assists for Lindsay came via Austin Brown and Brandon Washer, who contributed one a piece.

Jophrey Gregoire made 33 saves for the Hurricanes on 36 shots. Newmarket totaled 55 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Stephan was ejected from the game. Lindsay's starting goalie, Branden Francey, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Cody Northover - APJ, who stopped four shots. The Muskies totaled 53 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Lindsay, Vince Herlihey was ejected from the game.
