Whitby outlasts Orangeville, 4-2Alder St. Recreation Centre Sat, Nov 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Whitby Fury gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Orangeville Flyers. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan Kirkup's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Kirkup had one goal and three assists to lead Whitby. Kirkup scored 16:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Jeff Murray assisted on the tally. The Fury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Orangeville was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Whitby also got points from Jonathan OHara, who also had one goal and one assist, Murray, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Taylor Best, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Whitby came via Greg Milner and Patrick McAuliffe, who contributed one a piece. The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitby to score on any of its three power plays. Orangeville was helped by Ian Nichols, who finished with one goal. Nichols scored 17:23 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. Brandon Gaudette also scored for Orangeville. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Devon Gillham, who had one. Tyler Feaver rejected 23 shots on goal for the Fury. Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wyatt Pickrell recorded 41 saves for the Flyers. Orangeville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
