Pickering vanquishes Oakville in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pickering Panthers defeated the Oakville Blades in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Oakville's shootout goal was scored by Sean Kohler. In addition to the clincher, Pickering got a shootout goal from Robert Cammalleri.

The Panthers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pickering fell behind 4-2 after a goal by the Blades' Greg Allen at 4:17 in the second period. The Panthers tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mike Nedoszytko at 18:09 in the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:25 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Pickering kept Oakville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan McGlynn made 36 saves on 41 shots.

Pickering also got points from Brodie Tutton, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nicholas Lepone also scored for Pickering. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Tanner Shaw, Corey Helliwell, Cammalleri, and Mark Tenuta, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Oakville eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Blades got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Oakville additionally got points from Carmine Vietri, who also had one goal and one assist. Oakville also got a goal from David Dischiavi as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Ryan Garvey, who had two and Ryan Takamatsu, Chris Poletek, Matt Luff, and Dalton Bew, who contributed one a piece.

Pickering's Steven Dombrosky stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Panthers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Pickering ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Palmer was ejected from the game. Oakville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. For the Blades, Marcel Fatovic was ejected from the game.
