Milton beats Burlington 7-4 as Bennett gets hat trick

The Burlington Cougars could not stop the Milton Icehawks' Shane Bennett, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-4 win.

Bennett's first goal came 8:21 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:35 into the second and at 6:00 into the third.

Burlington's power play was ineffective against Milton's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Icehawks made Cougars' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots and forcing 39 saves. Devin Tappendan made 29 stops and Morton Josh made 10. Milton found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Icehawks average 3.3 goals per game.

Milton also got points from Kane Elliot, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Cooper Richards, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jeremy Gottzmann, who also had one goal and three assists. Josh Pace also scored for Milton. In addition, Milton received assists from Tyler Burns, Alex Riche, Evan Denley, Jake Baird, and Ryan Burns, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars kept Milton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Burlington was led by Daniel Campbell, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Campbell scored short handed 4:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. The Cougars found themselves down a man on Ryan Sullivan's cross checking. Others who scored for Burlington included Riley Dunda, Ryan Wilkinson, and Viktor Mueller, who scored one goal each. More assists for Burlington came via Neil Aird, Paolo DeSousa, and Adam Burnett, who contributed one a piece.

The Icehawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Burlington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Lepore was ejected from the game.
