Toronto Lakeshore rides Helvig to victory over Newmarket, 3-1

Jeremy Helvig stood on his head and made 33 saves to lead the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots to a 3-1 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Toronto Lakeshore was sparked by Nathan Feric, who registered one goal and one assist. Feric scored on the power play 17:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. The Patriots earned a power play opportunity when Jesse Saban was put in the box for elbowing. Michael Prapavessis provided the assist.

Toronto Lakeshore stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Others who scored for Toronto Lakeshore included Brandon Willett and Marcus Rose, who each put in one. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Andreas Tsogkas, Niko Kovachis, Doug Bonar, and Rory Bell, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Newmarket averages 4.0 goals per game. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 34 shots on the Patriots' net.

Newmarket was led by Sam Hu, who scored the team's only goal. Hu scored 2:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Jacob Piltzmaker picked up the assist.

Toronto Lakeshore incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Bo Bessette made 25 saves for the Hurricanes on 28 shots. Newmarket incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Taylor Joseph was ejected from the game.
