Hamilton wins tough contest against Milton, 4-3

The game between the Hamilton Red Wings and the Milton Icehawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Hamilton emerged with a 4-3 win.

The Red Wings gained the winning advantage on a goal by Josh LaFrance 15:58 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

LaFrance had a great game for Hamilton, netting two goals.

Milton's power play was ineffective against the Red Wings' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Hamilton stifled the Icehawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Red Wings' offense rang up 41 shots on Milton's net. Hamilton found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Hamilton also had goals scored by Luke Sinclair and Niko Porikos, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Josh Chiarot, Brandon Kolaski, Corey Caruso, Marco Mattina, Joel Knight, and Alex Zaccaria, who contributed one a piece.

The Red Wings were unable to stop the Icehawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Milton eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Icehawks were led by Jeremy Gottzmann, who registered one goal and one assist. Gottzmann scored 10:55 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Alex Riche provided the assist. Others who scored for Milton included Tyler Burns and Cooper Richards, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Kane Elliot, Steven Goeree, Shane Bennett, and Joseph Benvenuto, who each chipped in one.

Mark Sinclair recorded 29 saves for Hamilton. The Red Wings registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Ben Blacker made 37 saves for Milton on 41 shots. The Icehawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
