Thompson's big game bests Wellington in 5-2 Whitby win

The Whitby Fury's Henry Thompson had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Wellington Dukes.

Thompson's tallies came at 16:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and 19:08 into the third to make the score 5-2 Whitby.

Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellington to score on any of its five power plays. The Dukes were unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Whitby also got points from Jeff Murray, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Taylor Best, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Mitch Emerson as well. More assists for Whitby came via Connor Hale, Mike Panowyk, Ryan Kirkup, Jonathan OHara, Greg Milner, and Adam Clements, who each chipped in one.

Wellington forced the Fury goalie Boyd Diclemente to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Dukes were led by Trevor Cope, who registered one goal. Cope scored 16 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Erick Delaurentis picked up the assist. Maurizio Colella also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Luc Brown, Parker Wood, and Steven Deeg, who contributed one a piece.

Diclemente recorded 37 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tyson Teichmann made 26 saves for Wellington on 30 shots. The Dukes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
