Pickering uses shootout to best Hamilton, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pickering Panthers defeated the Hamilton Red Wings in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams.

Pickering forced Hamilton goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Panthers were helped by Nicholas Lepone, who tallied one goal. Lepone scored on the power play 6:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pickering. A head contact penalty on Ryan Laufman had put Pickering on the power play. Brodie Tutton assisted on the tally. Corey Helliwell also scored for Pickering. In addition, Pickering received assists from Tanner Shaw and Mark Tenuta, who contributed one a piece.

The Red Wings were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Hamilton surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Red Wings were helped by Marco Mattina, who registered one goal. Mattina scored 4:55 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Corey Caruso provided the assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Luke Sinclair as well. More assists for Hamilton came via Cole Poliziani and Chance MacDonald, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers' Steven Dombrosky stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Pickering incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sinclair rejected 30 shots on goal for Hamilton. The Red Wings registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Hamilton, Matt Smith was ejected from the game.
