Bennett nets hat trick, leads Milton to 7-5 win over LindsayLindsay Recreation Centre Tue, Nov 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Shane Bennett lifted the Milton Icehawks to a 7-5 victory with a hat trick against the Lindsay Muskies. Bennett's first goal came 7:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:58 into the first and at 19:51 into the second.Milton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lindsay to score on any of its four power plays. The Muskies were unable to stop the Icehawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Milton eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Icehawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Milton averages 3.1 goals per game. The Icehawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes. Milton also got points from Kane Elliot, who also grabbed three goals and one assist and Josh Pace, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Milton came via Ryan Burns, who had two, Alex Riche, who had three, and Tyler Burns, Cooper Richards, and Stephan Templeton, who contributed one a piece. Lindsay's offense rang up 39 shots on Milton's net. The Muskies could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Lindsay was helped by Logan DeNoble, who registered one goal. DeNoble scored 14:35 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lindsay. Michael Spataro assisted on the tally. Lindsay additionally got points from Austin Eastman, who also had one goal and one assist. Lindsay also got a goal from Patrick Morgan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Stefan Von Egelbrechten, who had two and Austin Brown, James Sterne, and Bryce Sweeting, who each chipped in one. Ben Blacker made 34 saves for the Icehawks on 39 shots. Milton registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Mathew Robson recorded 38 saves for the Muskies. Lindsay ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryan Hignett was ejected from the game.
