Toronto holds on for 6-4 win against Whitby

The Whitby Fury tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Toronto Junior Canadiens would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

A goal by Daniel Harquail put Toronto up 6-3 in the third period, but Whitby pulled to within two on Jeff Murray's tally 16:53 into the third period.

Nicholas Jarzabek had two goals and one assist to lead the Junior Canadiens. Jarzabek scored the first of his two goals at 8:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto. Connor Prudames assisted on the tally. Jarzabek's next tally made the score 5-2 Toronto with 5:00 left in the second period. Mark Spadafora provided the assist.

Toronto forced Fury's goaltenders to work between the pipes, ripping 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Boyd Diclemente made 19 stops and Tyler Feaver made 10. The Junior Canadiens' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Whitby power plays. Toronto's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Junior Canadiens average 3.4 goals per contest.

Toronto also got a goal from Jake Walman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Aaron Thow, Kennedy Duguid, Cody Thompson, and Christopher Jarzabek, who contributed one a piece.

The Fury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Whitby kept Toronto's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Lopapa made 28 saves on 32 shots.

The Fury were led by Greg Milner, who finished with one goal and one assist. Milner scored 10:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Toronto. Mike Panowyk picked up the assist. Whitby additionally got points from Panowyk, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Connor Hale also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Marcus Crawford, Troy Oakley, Taylor Best, and Jeremy Wu, who each chipped in one.

The Junior Canadiens incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
