Cobourg vanquishes Aurora in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)Aurora Community Centre Wed, Nov 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Aurora Tigers in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Cobourg got a shootout goal from TJ Melancon.The Cougars saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Cobourg made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Conner Hogg at 17:49 in the second period. Aurora evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Drake Board at 12:22 in the third period. The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Cobourg gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Theo Lewis also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Matt Martin, Jake Emilio, Ryan OGrady, Spencer Holt, Connor Armour, and Taylor Gauld, who contributed one a piece. The Tigers made Cougars' goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 46 shots and forcing 43 saves. Mathieu Ouellet made 18 stops and Nathan Perry made 25. Aurora was led by Robert Angiolella, who tallied one goal and one assist. Angiolella scored on the power play 17:01 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. The Tigers had gotten the advantage when the Cougars' Rylee McKinnon was sent off for slashing. Calvin Higley provided the assist. Aurora also got a goal from Kyle Liu as well. More assists for Aurora came via Alex Gilmour, Dylan Sikura, Curtis Warren, and Adam DiBrina, who each chipped in one. Cobourg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Cougars, Martin was ejected from the game. Andy Munroe recorded 23 saves for Aurora. The Tigers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
