GAME RECAP

Pickering uses shootout to best Georgetown, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Pickering Recreation Complex    Sun, Nov 10, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pickering Panthers defeated the Georgetown Raiders in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. Pickering's other shootout goal was scored by Nicholas Lepone.

The Panthers came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pickering was down 3-1 after a short handed goal by Georgetown's Steve Hladin at 14:43 in the second period. The Panthers knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Liam Board at 19:29 in the third period.

Pickering forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Pickering excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Raiders were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Pickering eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Panthers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Pickering averages 2.7 goals per contest.

The Panthers were led by Mike Nedoszytko, who tallied two goals. Nedoszytko scored the first of his two goals short handed at 4:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Georgetown. Pickering was on a disadvantage when Brent Tuchner went off the ice for slashing. Corey Helliwell picked up the assist. In addition, Pickering received assists from Ian Chen APM, Robert Cammalleri, Mark Tenuta, Lepone, and Riley Devine, who each chipped in one.

The Georgetown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Raiders had been spending in the box. Georgetown's offense rang up 37 shots on the Panthers' net.

Georgetown also got a goal from Richard Court as well. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Anthony Marra, who had two and Liam Clare, Scott Emerson, Ryan Smith, Phil Kiss, and Nicolas Lavoie, who contributed one a piece.
