Kirkup's big game bests Milton in 7-2 Whitby win

The Whitby Fury's Ryan Kirkup had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 7-2 win over the Milton Icehawks.

Kirkup scored on the power play 9:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Whitby had gotten the advantage when Milton's Stephan Templeton was sent off for fighting. Jonathan OHara assisted on the tally. Kirkup dished an assist on Mitch Emerson's goal that made the score 2-0 Whitby at 19:43 into the first period. He then added assists on Connor Hale's goal at 24 seconds into the second and on Henry Thompson's goal at 13:25 into the second.

The Fury kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 46 saves on 53 shots. Whitby surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Fury average 4.1 goals per contest.

Whitby also got a goal from Jeff Murray as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Greg Milner, who had three and Marcus Crawford, Adam Clements, and Marco Azzano, who contributed one a piece.

The Milton penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 64 minutes in penalty time. The Icehawks surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Whitby's Boyd Diclemente stopped 17 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The Fury totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-11 on the power play. For Whitby, Troy Oakley was ejected from the game. Milton registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For the Icehawks, Kane Elliot, Steven Goeree, Ryan Burns, and Templeton were ejected from the contest.
