Wiffen's hat trick boosts Trenton over Hamilton, 7-3

The Hamilton Red Wings could not stop the Trenton Golden Hawks' Brady Wiffen, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-3 win.

Wiffen's first goal came 11:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:15 into the first and at 5:42 into the second.

Trenton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Golden Hawks made Hamilton's goalies to work without much rest, racking up 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Corey Foster made 24 stops and Mark Sinclair made 11. Trenton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Hamilton power plays. The Golden Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Trenton averages 4.4 goals per game.

Trenton additionally got points from Danny Liscio, who also had two goals and one assist, Zach de Concilys, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Nick Santoro, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Hunter Fargey, who had two and Tyler Mayea, Mathew Thompson, Fabrizio Ricci, and Brett Seldon, who contributed one a piece.

The Red Wings were led by Niko Porikos, who finished with one goal. Porikos scored 4:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Trenton. Ryan Laufman assisted on the tally. Hamilton also had goals scored by Mitch Reid and Josh LaFrance, who each put in one. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Connor Bramwell and Corey Caruso, who each chipped in one.

The Golden Hawks' Denny Dubblestyne stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Trenton registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Hamilton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Red Wings, Brandon Kolaski was ejected from the game.
