Whitby survives Oakville comeback, wins 5-3

The Whitby Fury came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Oakville Blades, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Whitby led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Fury's Tyler Park's scored at 1:25 in the second period to put Whitby up 4-1.

Henry Thompson was all over the ice for the Fury, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Thompson scored at 14:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Whitby and again while 15:22 into the first to make the score 3-1 Whitby.

Whitby's penalty kill excelled, as the Fury gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Whitby stifled Oakville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Whitby additionally got points from Jeff Murray, who also had one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Ryan Kirkup as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Adam Clements, who had two, Greg Milner, who had three, and Mitch Emerson, Marco Azzano, Keegan Cairns, and Sean Deroch, who each chipped in one.

The Blades' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Whitby power plays. Oakville kept the Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 29 saves on 32 shots.

The Blades were helped by Ross Sloan, who tallied one goal. Sloan scored 9:57 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Whitby. Ryan Garvey provided the assist. Greg Allen also scored for Oakville. In addition, Oakville received assists from Kamil Tkaczuk, Keigan Goetz, Sean Kohler, Joe Seney, and Zach Dybowski (APM), who contributed one a piece.

Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Oakville's Evan Buitenhuis stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Blades incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
