Toronto Lakeshore holds on for 3-1 win against OrangevilleWestwood Arena Wed, Oct 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orangeville Flyers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1. Toronto Lakeshore took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Orangeville storm back on a Mathew Thompson goal 17:10 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Flyers were stymied by the Patriots netminder Jeremy Helvig, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Helvig certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.46 entering the contest. Orangeville was unable to stop Toronto Lakeshore from sending pucks towards the net, and the Patriots eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Toronto Lakeshore was helped by Marcus Rose, who registered one goal. Rose scored 26 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-0 Toronto Lakeshore. Jacob Hayhurst provided the assist. Toronto Lakeshore also got points from Hayhurst, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Toronto Lakeshore also got a goal from Matthew McLeod as well. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Cory Laver, who had two and Niko Kovachis and Luke Carter, who contributed one a piece. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Keegan Ackerland, who had one. The Patriots incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Wyatt Pickrell rejected 28 shots on goal for the Flyers. Orangeville finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
