Toronto squeaks by Oakville, 4-2

The Toronto Junior Canadiens gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Oakville Blades.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Daniel Volpe's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Toronto was sparked by Volpe, who tallied one goal and one assist. Volpe scored 13:56 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Toronto. Daniel Harquail provided the assist.

The Junior Canadiens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Oakville to score on any of its four power plays.

Toronto also got points from Kennedy Duguid, who also registered one goal and one assist and Harquail, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Toronto also got a goal from Connor Prudames as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Cody Thompson, who had two and Ryan MacSpadyen and Stephen Alvo, who each chipped in one.

The Blades stifled Toronto's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Oakville kept the Junior Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Colitto made 33 saves on 35 shots.

The Blades were helped by Dalton Bew, who finished with one goal. Bew scored 20 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. Ryan Garvey picked up the assist. Sean Kohler also scored for Oakville. More assists for Oakville came via Vince Palermo and Marcel Fatovic, who contributed one a piece.

Toronto incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Evan Buitenhuis made 25 saves for Oakville on 28 shots. The Blades incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
