Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Burlington Cougars defeated the Mississauga Chargers in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured four attempts between both teams.Burlington came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cougars fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Mississauga's Aaron Dutra at 5:33 in the third period. Burlington knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Paolo DeSousa at 18:53 in the third period. Tyler Lepore was all over the ice for the Cougars, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Lepore scored 7:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Ryan Wilkinson provided the assist. Burlington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mississauga power plays. The Cougars' offense rang up 43 shots on the Chargers' net. Burlington also got a goal from Viktor Mueller as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Neil Aird, Jordan Brown, and Steven Mueller, who contributed one a piece. Mississauga forced Burlington goalie Morton Josh to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Chargers were helped by Vince Figliomeni, who racked up one goal. Figliomeni scored 10:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Hunter assisted on the tally. Stefano Alonzi also scored for Mississauga. More assists for Mississauga came via Zackery Landsfield, who had two and Jackson Howe, Ryan Harrison, and Cory Hyashi, who each chipped in one. Josh recorded 35 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mississauga's Austin Washkurak stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Chargers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
