GAME RECAP

Georgetown uses shootout to best Buffalo, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Mold-Master SportsPlex    Sat, Oct 26, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Buffalo got a shootout goal from Darren McCormick. Georgetown's other shootout goal was scored by Anthony Marra.

The Raiders overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Georgetown was down 1-0 after a power play goal by the Jr. Sabres' McCormick at 6:08 in the third period. The Raiders tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Marra at 15:14 in the third period.

Georgetown's Michael McNiven was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of McNiven will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.67.

The Raiders forced Buffalo goalie Brandon Mueller to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

In addition, Georgetown received assists from Gavin Shantz and Steve Hladin, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Sabres stifled Georgetown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Buffalo could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Sabres average 4.7 goals per game. Buffalo's offense rang up 36 shots on the Raiders' net.

More assists for Buffalo came via Max Mikowski and Nick Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Georgetown incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jr. Sabres' Mueller stopped 39 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Buffalo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
