Kingston uses shootout to best Cobourg, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kingston Voyageurs defeated the Cobourg Cougars in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Cobourg was stymied by Kingston netminder Alex Brooks-Potts, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. Brooks-Potts certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.37 entering the contest.

The Voyageurs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their four power plays. Kingston forced Cobourg goalie Nathan Perry to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Voyageurs were led by Brett Seney, who registered one goal. Seney scored 15:34 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Alex Tonge picked up the assist.

The Cougars' offense rang up 40 shots on Kingston's net.

Cobourg was led by Connor Armour, who scored the team's only goal. Armour scored 19:56 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Stuart King assisted on the tally.

The Voyageurs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cougars' Perry stopped 36 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Cobourg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
