Cobourg beats Toronto 2-0 as Ouellet gains shutout

Mathieu Ouellet made 25 saves to complete the shutout and led the Cobourg Cougars to a 2-0 win against the Toronto Junior Canadiens.

Toronto's power play was ineffective against Cobourg's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cougars were sparked by Connor Armour, who had one goal. Armour scored 14:36 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Ryan OGrady assisted on the tally.

Cobourg's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Toronto power plays. The Cougars' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Junior Canadiens. Cobourg gives up 2.7 goals on average per game. The Cougars' offense rang up 39 shots on Toronto's net. Cobourg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kenzie Smith also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Conner Hogg and Mark MacAulay, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Canadiens stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Toronto could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Junior Canadiens put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Cobourg registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Nathan Colitto recorded 37 saves for Toronto. The Junior Canadiens incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
