Pickering falls to Newmarket after surprising comeback

The Pickering Panthers could not hold down the Newmarket Hurricanes, and Hurricanes erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Newmarket let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Hurricanes took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Justin Maiolino at 2:13 in the first period. Newmarket went down 3-1 after Pickering's Robert Cammalleri put the puck home short handed at 12:05 in the first period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Maiolino at 13:03 in the second, the Hurricanes got the game-winner from Trevor Petersen at 19:33 in the third period.

Maiolino and Petersen provided the spark for Newmarket, combining for three goals and two assists. Maiolino finished with two goals and Petersen also added one goal and two assists.

The Hurricanes forced the Panthers goalie Steven Dombrosky to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Newmarket additionally got points from Petersen, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Nik Coric also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Kyle Stephan, Brandon Francisco, Jesse Saban, Thomas Beretta, Taylor Joseph, and Ian Farrell, who each chipped in one.

Pickering kept Newmarket's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jophrey Gregoire made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Pickering also got a goal from Mark Tenuta as well. In addition, Pickering received assists from Tanner Shaw, Mike Nedoszytko, Lucas Condotta, and Brodie Tutton, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Panthers' Dombrosky stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Pickering incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
