Buffalo blows out Milton, 6-2

The Milton Icehawks had trouble finding ways to stop the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, which beat Icehawks, 6-2.

Buffalo got the win thanks to a great game by Pat Egan, who had two goals and one assist. Egan scored the first of his two goals at 11:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Nathan Black provided the assist. Egan's next tally made the score 5-2 Buffalo with 7:00 left in the second period. The Jr. Sabres had gotten the advantage when Milton's Cooper Richards was sent off for tripping. Nick Desimone assisted on the tally.

Buffalo stifled the Icehawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Sabres' offense rang up 34 shots on Milton's net. Buffalo's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Jr. Sabres finished with 19 penalty minutes.

Buffalo additionally got points from Ryan Schmelzer, who also registered one goal and one assist, Desimone, who also had one goal and one assist, and Black, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Michael Ederer also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via Darren McCormick, Ryan Kuhn, Ben Casale, and Nolan Sheeran, who each chipped in one and Brandon Schaber and Mason Evans, who contributed two a piece.

The Icehawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Milton had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Icehawks were helped by Shane Bennett, who finished with one goal. Bennett scored 6:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Buffalo. Richards picked up the assist. Milton also got a goal from Viktor Mueller as well. In addition, Milton received assists from TJ Fergus and Ryan Burns, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo's Joseph Pianta stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Jr. Sabres registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Buffalo, Max Mikowski was ejected from the game. Ben Blacker made 28 saves for Milton on 34 shots. The Icehawks registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Milton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lior Goldenberg was ejected from the game.
