Stouffville's comeback falls short, Oakville wins 7-5

The Stouffville Spirit almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Oakville Blades managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Oakville led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Blades' Keigan Goetz's scored at 36 seconds in the second period to put Oakville up 4-0.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:32 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The the Blades penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. Oakville surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades forced Stouffville's goalies to work in net, totaling 31 shots and forcing 24 saves. Tim Bester made 16 stops and Daniel Mannella made eight. Oakville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Blades average 4.2 goals per contest.

Oakville was helped by Dalton Bew, who registered two goals. Bew scored the first of his two goals at 17:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Oakville. Greg Allen picked up the assist. Bew's next tally made the score 3-0 Oakville with 1:18 left in the first period. Marcel Fatovic provided the assist. Oakville additionally got points from Allen, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Matt Luff, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Oakville also got a goal from Kamil Tkaczuk as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Ross Sloan, who had two and Chris Poletek and Austin Clapham, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit's offense rang up 49 shots on the Blades' net.

Stouffville was led by Joseph Deveny, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Deveny scored on the power play 9:59 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Oakville. The Spirit earned a power play opportunity when Vince Palermo was put in the box for fighting. Matthew Heffernan assisted on the tally. Stouffville also got points from Michael Morgan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stouffville included Justin Wain, who had one and Peyton Backus, who had two. More assists for Stouffville came via Michael Carcone, who had two, Robert Powers, who had three, and Michael Stevens and Kyler Challis, who each chipped in one.

Evan Buitenhuis recorded 44 saves for Oakville. The Blades registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Goetz and Palermo were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Stouffville totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 4-for-9 on the power play. For the Spirit, Spencer Roberts was ejected from the game.
